A Sequence of Tilesets

Now that Sound Literacy contains the ability to create a Tileset to match many different ways of thinking, it is only natural for those who rely on a scope and sequence or a particular curriculum to want to create a series of Tilesets to match that sequence. This is possible, but don’t be too hasty! I want to save you some frustration and explain the easiest way to accomplish this (not the only way, but rather the easiest way). First… Have you watched the video titled “Create a Tileset”?  If not, do that now. Next… Make a...

Parents

Parents are always asking me if there is something, besides hiring a tutor, that they can do to help their child with dyslexia. My answer is – Yes! There is a lot they can do! Read, read, read a lot, to their child. Talk, talk, talk a lot about what they are reading. Write, write, write a lot about what they are reading. Comprehension While reading with a child make connections. Connect the thoughts in one book to the thoughts in other books and to life experiences. Model good comprehension skills – compare and contrast, classify...

Colors

They’re back! The brighter, bolder, more crayon-like colors of the original Sound Literacy are a choice you can have again. The update that includes these color choices is in the Apple queue being reviewed as I write this post. It should be available either today or within the next couple of days. This update also includes a surprise improvement to the size of the tiles. Don’t worry… We have not ignored those who requested the pastel choices over the original colors. Our update gives you the choice – Pastel or Dark. Since...

Update – June 28, 2013

Our users’ feedback continue to help us make Sound Literacy more “user friendly”. We released an update on June 28th with a few minor “fixes”. This update represents the 3rd one since the release of  Sound Literacy 2.0 – each update has made the functions more intuitive. So What’s new? 1) The May 5th update included a popup message intended to appear when a new update was released. However, a glitch had it popping up every time a user opened the app. Talk about calling wolf! So…we disabled it! Yay!   2) The...

International Keyboards

Creating a Sound Literacy Tileset in a different language is possible…that is IF you know how to access two features that your iPad comes with. Feature one – The ability to select from a list of International Keyboards. Tap the Settings icon on your iPad.. Scroll down the right side of the menu bar … tap Keyboard … Now tap International Keyboards… Now begin scrolling and selecting the keyboards you want available in Sound Literacy… Here you can see that my iPad has different 7 keyboards...

Quick Tip – Qwerty

Quick Tip – Qwerty

Did you know that you can organize the Alphabet pantry with a “Qwerty” order? In fact, any order is possible! When editing, simply drag and drop the tiles to change their positions! Perhaps you would want both setups (Alphabetical order and Qwerty order)  in your alphabet pantry. Simply add a page to the alphabet pantry and name it “Qwerty”. Hint – when you tap “Add a Page To This Pantry”, the page is added after the last existing page in your pantry. Tap the arrow on the right side of the page, keep going until you...
